Adolescent Treatment

During adolescence, the last remaining baby teeth fall out and are replaced by adult teeth. This is great opportunity to evaluate your child's need for orthodontic treatment. Whether it is you or your teenager that are noticing problems with the smile and and bite, or the dentist who thinks an evaluation is in order, Mashouf Orthodontics is here for you.  Continue reading to learn more about comprehensive orthodontic treatment for adolescents.

Comprehensive Orthodontic Treatment

Coinciding with adolescence between the ages of 11 to 14, comprehensive orthodontic treatment is aimed at correcting problems in tooth and jaw alignment after the last adult teeth have come into the mouth. Braces or clear aligners are used to align the teeth and jaws in one single, convenient stage. This standard treatment is both effective and predictable, benefiting from the ability to include all the adult teeth. Listed below are the appliances used for comprehensive orthodontic treatment.

Listed below are the appliances used in comprehensive orthodontic treatment:

  • Traditional Metal Braces: These are what most people think of when they hear the word "braces." Made from high-grade stainless steel, they're a durable, reliable, and cost-effective treatment for almost any orthodontic condition.

  • Damon Clear and Metal Braces: Damon braces look and work similarly to braces, but they use special "self ligating" brackets that don't require elastic ties, helping to speed up the treatment process and provide more comfort. Damon Clear braces are considered by many as the most esthetic braces available, made of clear ceramic which blends beautifully with the teeth.

  • Invisalign: An alternative to braces that does away with metal brackets and wires, instead using a series of clear, removable aligners to straighten teeth. Invisalign clear aligners are virtually invisible when worn and completely removable.
