Discreet Orthodontic Care in San Jose, CA

There are various orthodontic treatment paths available for achieving a healthy, beautiful smile – and while many people are excited to get their braces, others prefer a more discreet treatment option. Thanks to new advancements in orthodontic treatment technology there is a great option for orthodontic treatment that's radically different from traditional braces. At Mashouf Orthodontics, we strive to make treatment as effective and convenient as possible, which is why we're excited to offer our patients Invisalign – a revolutionary alternative to braces.

A Clear Path to a New Smile

Invisalign combines advanced 3D computer imaging technology with the 100-year-old science of orthodontics, producing an orthodontic treatment unlike any before it. Instead of the metal wires and brackets used by traditional braces, Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable plastic trays called aligners to straighten the teeth. The aligners are virtually invisible when worn and easy to pop in and out for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. This means that almost no one will know you're straightening your teeth, you can still enjoy all your favorite foods, and maintaining oral hygiene is as easy as ever!

The Invisalign Process

The Invisalign treatment process is simple, convenient, and puts you on a path to a beautiful new smile – and it all begins with your first visit. At your initial appointment we'll perform a thorough orthodontic evaluation, checking for any orthodontic problems and getting a better understanding of your bite and smile, and will be able to tell you if Invisalign will work for you. The next step will be to take 3D impressions of your teeth with our digital scanner, and using these digital models we'll carefully design a detailed treatment plan to help you achieve our goals.  From this plan, we'll have the Invisalign company customer-manufacture your own set of Invisalign aligners – anywhere from 12 to 48. You'll wear each set of aligners for 2 weeks, and with each new pair, your teeth will move closer to their final positions. When you're finished, you'll have a beautiful new smile that'll last a lifetime!

Invisalign Teen

In addition to the regular Invisalign system, we're also excited to offer our patients Invisalign Teen: a specialized form of Invisalign that's designed to fit the teenage lifestyle. Invisalign already does away with the wires and brackets of braces, making it a great option for busy, socially conscious teens – but Invisalign Teen comes with even more advantages specifically tailored to teenagers:

  • Blue Dot Wear Indicators: Built-in compliance indicators let doctors, parents, and teens themselves know if the aligners are being worn enough or if the patient needs to be a little more diligent.
  • Eruption Tabs: Invisalign Teen aligners can be made with eruption tabs, which hold space open for teeth that haven't fully grown in yet.
  • 6 Free Replacement Aligners: Every Invisalign Teen treatment course comes with 6 replacement aligners at no extra cost, so there's no need to worry if any get lost or broken.

Q. How much do I need to wear the aligners?

A. You'll wear them for 20-22 hours a day, removing only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.

Q. Do I have to avoid certain foods during treatment?

A. No! Because you remove the aligners to eat, you can still enjoy all your favorite foods.

Q. Will my speech be impacted?

A. You'll go through a brief adjustment period where you might hear an effect to your speech, but this will fade quickly as your mouth gets used to the aligners. The more you talk with the aligners, the faster you'll adjust.

Q. Does Invisalign hurt?

A. You may feel some slight pressure or discomfort when you put in a new pair of aligners, but this fades quickly. Generally speaking, Invisalign doesn't "hurt."

Q. Can I chew gum with my aligners?

A. Gum can damage the aligners, so you'll need to take them out to chew gum.

Q. Can I smoke?

A. Smoking can discolor or warp the aligners, so you'll need to take them out if you want to smoke.

Q. How do I clean the aligners?

A. Just brush them with toothpaste every time you take them out to keep them clean and fresh!

Q. How often will I need to visit the office?

A. This varies from patient to patient, but you'll generally come in for an appointment every five or six weeks.

Q. Will I need a retainer after treatment?

A. All orthodontic patients need some form of retention treatment – but you're in luck. You can use your last pair of aligners as retainers!

Q. How long does treatment last?

A. This varies greatly from patient to patient, but you can expect treatment to take somewhere between 6 and 18 months.

Q. Can kids get Invisalign?

A. Sure! So long as all the teeth, including second molars, have grown in, anyone is a candidate for Invisalign.
