He has been in the private practice of orthodontics since 1974. He has taught at the University of Chicago, Mount Zion Hospital in San Francisco, and National University of Mexico. He is married and has three children. Away from the office, Dr. Mashouf enjoys running, skiing, poetry and fun parties.

His real passion is learning and applying new developments in the diagnosis and treatment of orthodontic patients. Dr. Mashouf is a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists and the Santa Clara County Dental Society.

He summarizes his learning experience in the following statement: “Moving from Tehran to Berkeley in the summer of 1969 was like landing in heaven. I started soaking up the information like a sponge and there was so much to learn. Now I realize how lucky I was to have had the company of some of the world’s greatest in dentistry and in orthodontics; Harry Sicher, Milton Engel, Robert Goshgarian, Joseph Jaraback, Tom Graber, and Eugene Roberts, to name just a few. They taught me more than their knowledge, they showed me the way.”

Kayhan Mashouf, D.M.D.

Kayhan_101213.jpgDr. Kayhan Lawrence Mashouf was born in San Francisco and grew up in San Jose. He decided to become an orthodontist at barely 9 years of age, when he himself was undergoing an early phase of orthodontic treatment. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz and his dental education at Boston University School of Dental Medicine. Upon graduating from BU, he matriculated at the University of Colorado in Denver to specialize in orthodontics.

Dr. Kayhan completed his residency in February of 2013 with a Certificate of Orthodontic Specialty and a Master of Science degree in Dentistry. He moved to San Jose in March of 2013 and started practicing at his father's office.

A proponent of interceptive orthodontics, Dr. Mashouf believes that the misalignment of teeth can be dealt with more effectively at a younger age (7-9), due to the biological adaptability that is present. He is adept at using the most advanced techniques to enhance his patients' esthetics and function.
